Thomas Lee Farmer, Sr., of Monroeville, Pennsylvania, departed this life on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at the age of 85 to be with his Lord. Born on September 2, 1937 in Sadlersville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Booker T and Beatrice (Jones) Farmer.
Tom joined the United States Army after graduating from Monessen High School. He proudly served his country for 21 years, achieving the rank of Command Sergeant Major, before retiring in 1980. He then worked on satellites at Lockheed Martin for 15 years and taught classes for Dish Network Corporation. When not working, Tom could be found serving in various roles at church. Over the years, he served as a Trustee, a Sunday school and Bible school teacher, and a Deacon.
He was the devoted husband of the late Lilly Jane Farmer, to whom he was married for 25 years. To that union, three children were born: Jacqueline, Thomas Jr., and Pamela. He later married the late Rev. Wilda P. (Windom) Farmer, to whom he was married for 35 years, and their blended family included children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Tom and Wilda were the anchors of their family, and their home was always filled with children, laughter, and love.
In addition to his wives, he is preceded in death by his brothers, William and Robert Farmer; his oldest daughter, Jacqueline Marie Farmer; and Wilda’s daughter, LaTanya Windom.
He leaves to cherish his memory: a sister, Ida Mae Farmer-Allums of Monessen; children, Pamela of Pittsburgh, and Thomas Jr., of Scottsdale, Arizona; a grandson whom he helped to raise, Leon Battist of Greensburg; Wilda’s children, Aaron Windom of Houston, Texas, and Jacquelyn Gunnell and Norronda (Edgar) Jones, both of Monessen; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
