Stephen "Steve" Zamosky Obituary

Stephen P. “Steve” Zamosky, age 78, of Wall, peacefully passed on Saturday, September 17, 2022. Son of the late Joseph and Wanda (Beczak) Zamosky. Beloved husband of the late Barbara (Williams) Zamosky. Dear father of Stephen (Melissa) Zamosky, loving grandfather of Joseph Zamosky, Kaitlynd (Cody) Johnson, and Zacharyah Zamosky. Great-grandfather of Olivia and Karley Johnson, and Baby to be born in December. Loving brother of Marsha (Michael) Giglio, Mary Ellen McWhinney, and Jack (Nancy) Zamosky. Also survived by stepchildren, Larry (Debbie) Brewer, Larry Haskins, Steven (Eileen) Haskins, loving grandchildren, Nina Brewer, Nicole Palombi, Isaac Haskins, and great-grandchild, Vincenzo Palombi. and numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Steve was a Carmelite Brother attending a Seminary High School. After graduating, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. During his 4 years in the Air Force (1964-1968), Steve served as a Russian Linguist and served in Germany. Steve was a former Auditor for Monumental Life. He also worked as the Baggage Handler Supervisor and Hazmat Officer for the U.S. Postal Service in Warrendale, PA for over 35 years.

Steve was one of the first Junior Fireman in Pennsylvania at the age of 14. He was influenced by his dad and uncles who were firemen. He passed the family tradition of being a fireman onto his nephews and cousins. Steve learned a lot about the fire service from his father, who was the Fire Chief of Wall.  After his father’s passing, Steve served as the last Fire Chief in Wall for 23 years, before becoming Chief for the first decade of the merged United Volunteer Fire Rescue. Later, Steve would become Chief Emeritus.

UVFR Chief Anthony Swidorsky summed up Steve’s fire service saying, “Over the span of his service, Steve has helped countless lives and to honor him we will continue to serve our community when the bell rings and know he’s with us every step of the way.”

Family and friends are welcome in the Alfieri Funeral Home, Inc., 201 Marguerite Ave, Wilmerding, PA 15148, 412-824-4332, on Thursday from 2pm to 8pm. A Fireman Service will be held at 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10am at St. Jude the Apostle Church of St. Joseph the Worker Parish.
