Samuel Shearer Obituary

Samuel D. Shearer, age 89 from Pitcairn, Pa, went home to be with the Lord on March 8, 2024. Born July 21, 1934 in Braddock, Pa. Son of the late Kenneth R. Shearer and Martha (McMumn) Shearer. Proceeded in death by his wife Beverly (Battista) Shearer and son Samuel D. Shearer Jr. Surviving are his brother Robert (Phyliss) Shearer, son Thomas A. (Rose) Shearer, son Douglas A. Shearer; grandchildren, Samuel K. Shearer, Christina Dinkins, Michelle (Rich) Habeck, Jodi (Scott) Glassic, and Emma Shearer. Also survived by 11 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, 1 niece, and 3 nephews. 


Sam was a member for many years at the First Presbyterian Church of Pitcairn, Pa. He was in the Army alongside Elvis Presley in Fort Hood Texas. Upon discharge he was in the reserves for 12 years. Prior to retirement he worked at U.S. Steel Homestead Works for 30 years, followed by a local door manufacturer. He then drove a school bus for the East Allegheny School District. He was also a home remodeler for many years. 


Sam was a very active person, a member of the Masons for 58 years, he belonged to the Shriners and Scottish Rite. He was a member of Pitcairn Volunteer Fire Co. #2, Pitcairn Italian Club, Lions Club, AOH, Trafford American Legion, Pitcairn #2 Firemen’s Club, Ukrainian Club in Wilmerding, and Pitcairn Camp B member for 63 years. He was an avid Steeler fan and Steeler season ticket holder for over 60 years. He was in attendance for Franco Harris’s Immaculate Reception. He loved family get togethers, fishing, hunting, gardening, and football. Sam was loved by so many, he will never be forgotten, and he will always be in our hearts and memories. 


Family and friends are welcome on Thursday, March 14 from 2pm to 8pm at the Alfieri Funeral Home, Inc., 201 Marguerite Ave, Wilmerding, PA 15148, 412-824-4332. A Masonic Service will be held at 5pm. A Blessing Service will be held on Friday at 11am in the funeral home. Sam will be laid to rest with Military Honors beside his beloved wife, Beverly, at Penn Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon.
