Peacefully passed on Friday, November 25, 2022, at the age of 95. Mildred was the devoted wife of the late Louis “Picky” Popovich for 60 years. She was the loving mother of Janet (Peter) Tumbas, and Steven (Patricia) Popovich; Special Grammy of Julianna Tumbas, Stefanie Tumbas, and Natalia (Leo) Petrulli, Special Great-Grammy of Avianna and Leo Steven Petrulli. She is also survived by her siblings, Georgeann (late Steve) Klipa, George “Judi” (Gladys) Mrvos, numerous nieces and nephews, and all who loved her. Mildred was preceded in passing by her parents, Djoko and Sava (Mudrich) Mrvos, and siblings, Sam (Surviving Reba) Mrvos, and Zora (late Jim) Stevens.
Mildred graduated from McKeesport High School, and before raising her family, worked in the office of the Wood Works Steel Company in McKeesport. After her children were grown, she worked at Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh in the Money Transfer Division. Mildred was a dedicated member of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church, Monroeville. She was a former Sunday School teacher. She was a former member of the Mothers Club and Tamburitzans Parent Group. Mildred had a special talent for baking, especially nutrolls. She put her talent for baking to good use and founded the Mens Club Fish Fry Cake Table. She was a former choir member at St. Sava Church in McKeesport. She was also a lifelong member and former Officer of the Serb National Federation Lodge #163 “SV Ilija” of Rankin, Pa. Above all, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was loved deeply and will be missed dearly.
Family and friends are welcome 1pm – 8pm on Monday at Alfieri Funeral Home, Inc., Wilmerding, Pa 15148, 412-824-4332. A Pomen Service will be held at 7pm. Additional visitation on Tuesday, from 10am – 11am at St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church, Monroeville. Funeral Services will follow with Father Stefan Djoric officiating. Mildred will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Louis, at Grandview Cemetery, North Versailles. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church.
