Michael A. Elko
October 18, 1940 - June 30, 2021
On June 30, 2021, Michael A. Elko was walked home into God’s loving embrace by his three children, John, Michael and Mary, his partner of 25 years Barbara, and his granddaughter Megan. While he has lived a beautiful rags to riches American Dream, Michael put his family above all else. He was quoted as saying “It’s not what you say, but what you do that counts.” And Michael did it all. He has traveled around the world, from seeing the Seven Wonders of the World, to his most favorite place, Israel. Throughout his highly successful 48-year career as Principal Agent of the Michael A. Elko Insurance Agency, he garnered endless awards for his superior salesmanship and customer service.
Besides playing cards with his grandchildren challenging them to “Beat Pap”, he loved reading, gardening, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, live theater and even had a side career as a volunteer usher with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust with Barbara. Michael also loved tennis, golf and of course the Steelers as well as coaching his sons’ baseball and football teams. His legacy will continue through his children John L. Elko (Cindy), Michael G. Elko (Cyndi/Fiancée), Mary (Elko) Erteschik (David), his “Boover of 25 years” Barbara Murdick, as well as 6 grandchildren, Taylor L. Elko, Camille B. Comfort, Megan E. Elko, Trent M. Comfort, Brittany A. Elko and Sarah D. Erteschik. The door to Heaven was held open for him by his wife Linda (Cappelli) Elko. He is also survived by his siblings Bernice Knipling, John Elko (Betty), Donald Elko (Karen), George Elko (Barbara) and Rose Elko as well as over 20 nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews as well as Richard Podolec (Melanie). Getting to heaven’s gate before him was his parents Anna (Krall) and John Elko, siblings Nicholas Elko (Maria) and Ruth Hegland (Swede).
