LaVergne “Vern” Gardner, of Monroeville, peacefully passed on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the age of 92. Vern was the beloved father of Sue Ellen Scott, Samuel (Anna Mae) Miller, Denny (Nancy) Gardner, Jean Ross, and Janice Tirrell. He was the proud grandfather of 9 and great-grandfather of 9. Vern is also survived by his sister, Mercedes Papinchak, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends. He was preceded in passing by his loving wife, Nancy Gardner.
Vern was a proud U.S. Army Veteran. He worked for the Monroeville Water Authority for over 20 years as the General Manager. For 12 years, he served as a Councilman for Monroeville. He was a member of the Irish Club, American Legion, and Monroeville Fire Hall #3. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and after he was a snowbird in Siesta Key, Florida. He also enjoyed going to Happy Hour every day. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, especially on his favorite holiday, Father’s Day.
Family and friends are welcome on Monday, from 2pm to 8pm at the Alfieri Funeral Home, Inc., 201 Marguerite Ave, Wilmerding, Pa 15148, 412-824-4332. A Blessing Service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 10am. Vern will be laid to rest with Full Military Honors beside his beloved wife, Nancy, at Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery, Monroeville.
