Jennie Gentile Obituary

Jennie Maurizi Gentile passed away on October 24th, 2025 at the age (a carefully guarded secret through the years) of 100, at St. Anne Home in Greensburg, PA.  Born in 1925 to Nazzareno and Carmella Maurizi in East McKeesport, Pa, she remained a lifelong resident there.  She was a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

When Jennie was only 18, her father unexpectantly died.  She gave up her personal dreams of further education to go to work in the local factory, Westinghouse Air Brake, to support her mother and four younger siblings. She prided herself in her business acumen, ability to ‘stretch the dollar’ and creating delicious Italian meals for her family. She loved all forms of exercise including dancing, swimming, walking, and golfing.  Jennie was one spunky lady. She was known for her toughness and was a sharp-minded fighter until the end. She holds the dubious distinction of being the only 100-year-old evicted from a previous care home for “bad behavior”.

Jennie was the classic Italophile, loving all things Italian.  She was a proud member of the ISDA (Italian Sons and Daughters of America) and faithfully pored over their monthly publication, “La Nostra Voce.”  She attributed her longevity to a diet of pepperoni, olives, salami, Fontinella cheese, and Italian bread (Jennie’s version of the ‘Mediterranean Diet’).

She was predeceased by her wonderful husband, Anthony, her amazing and faithful son, Mark, and three beloved siblings, Mary, Domenic, and Theresa. She is survived by her daughter, Maryanne Gentile (Dr. Frank) Torok, and three grandsons, Drs. Justin (Cassie)Torok, Drs. Collin (Haruka) Torok, and Drs. Jordan (Rachel) Torok. She was known as ‘Jen Jen’ to her seven fabulous great grandchildren: Kara, Ken, Julia, Joe, Clark, Luke, and Jake Torok.  She leaves behind her dear brother Joe and her many loving nephews and nieces.

Jennie loved the song, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”  May she find peace somewhere over that rainbow.

Funeral arrangements are being arranged by Alfieri Funeral Home in Wilmerding.  At her request, there will be a private memorial service for the family.
