Helen (Byrd) Cheripka, 99, peacefully passed Friday, Feb. 4, 2022. Regarded as the greatest generation, Helen was a faithful and devout Catholic who lived her faith. She was a wonderful mother and her family was very important to her. She was the former choir director for years at the former St. Michael Church, Pitcairn. She was also dedicated parishioner at St. Colman's Church, Turtle Creek. Beloved darling of the late George F. Cheripka Sr. Loving and devoted mom of George F. "Sonny" (Chris) Cheripka Jr., Richard "Dick" Cheripka, Theresa (Larry) Lugar, Helen "Lena" (Frank) Eggleston, Vincent (Lisa) Cheripka and the late Joseph (surviving Sharon) Cheripka Sr.; special grandma of 20 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; sister of Irene Scott. Helen was preceded in passing by her parents, William and Ocie Byrd and her nine siblings. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends are welcome from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in ALFIERI FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 Marguerite Ave., Wilmerding, PA 15148, 412-824-4332. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St Colman Church, St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Turtle Creek. Helen will be laid to rest by her beloved darling, George, at Good Shepherd Cemetery, Monroeville.
