Eliot Maravich Obituary

ELIOT MARAVICH (84) August 27, 1939 – May 15, 2024, Pittsburgh, PA; San Antonio, FL.

After a long, courageous battle with multiple medical ailments, Eliot Maravich passed away following a medical procedure at the hospital. As a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and kumovi, Eliot is survived by wife Geraldine (Geri) (nee Bossar), son Craig, daughter-in-law Brenda (nee Bazella), grand-children Eliot Cole, Ethan Sawyer, and Avery Rae; sister Mary Pat (husband Thomas Klaric deceased), brother Samuel (Sammy) and wife Edna (nee Burke); predeceased by brother George (Punk) and wife Joann (nee Covi), predeceased by brother Stojan and wife Helen residing in Florida, and many nieces, nephews,  great-nieces, great-nephews, Kumovi Matijevich, Vignovic, Barkman, Winovich, Kaufman, and friends and family from the Serbian Community, Pittsburgh, PA, and San Antonio, FL.

As a long-time, devote practicing Serbian-Orthodox Christian, Eliot was a member of Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, St. Mary’s Orthodox Church (South Side), and St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in St. Petersburg, FL. Eliot served the church in multiple positions, including numerous stints as President and Treasurer at Holy Trinity and as a choir member at all three parishes. In addition, he was a long-term member of the Serb National Federation (SNF).

As the son of Stojan and Millie, Eliot grew up in the South Side playing basketball at South Side Highschool, winning a City League Championship, and graduating in 1956. He continued his academic and basketball career at the University of Pittsburgh, graduating in 1960 and then pursuing and graduating with a Master’s Degree in Social Work Administration. After, he served in the US Army and Army Reserves and retired after 32 years from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as the Executive Director of the Department of Public Welfare in Washington County.
Throughout the years, Eliot found different passions, including racquetball, boating, golf, living in Florida, watching hockey, coaching basketball, walking the dog in Pittsburgh, and cruise shipping the open seas.

All will miss Eliot’s intelligence, guidance, quick-wittedness, and sense of humor. We love you, Big Guy!
