Edith Petrocelli Obituary

Born Wilmerding, PA, on June 12, 1922, Edith B Petrocelli of Monroeville passed away on May  2, 2023, seven weeks shy of her 101st birthday.  She was preceded in death by her  husband, Anthony (Tony) Petrocelli, and by her parents Vernor Linus and Edith Davis Barbor,  her sister Corabel Bush, and her three brothers, Delmont Davis “Pete” Barbor, Vernor Linus  Barbor, Jr., and William Selden Davis Barbor. 

“De De,” as she was known, graduated from Westinghouse Memorial High School in Wilmerding in 1940.  She attended (then) Carnegie Tech, Margaret Morrison Carnegie College and graduated in April, 1944 with a degree in Costume Economics.  She was married on August 2, 1958, to Anthony Petrocelli, a music teacher and band director at Wilmerding and Turtle Creek High Schools.  They made their home in Monroeville.  He later opened music stores in Monroeville and McKeesport.  Edith was  a talented seamstress who fashioned her own wedding gown, a knitter and an accomplished  Quilter.  She was an avid Pirate, Panther, and Steeler fan. 

She is survived by nieces Eydie Viggiano Hall, “Cookie” Viggiano, Marilyn Viggiano and her husband and daughter Taku and Sora Okumura of Pittsburgh; nieces Roberta Barbor Lipsey of Cordova,TN, and Judith Gay Ballas and Jana Seaman of Philadelphia.  Two nephews survive; Delmont “Dave” Barbor of New York City, and Jay Bush of Edgewood. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Louise Petrocelli and other nieces and nephews: Rosemarie and Alan Crop, Del and Sharon Petrocelli, Robert and Jeannie Petrocelli, Patty and Paul Baverso, Darryl and Debbie Petrocelli, Lisa and Doug Krueger. 

 Special thanks go to family friend Cathy Sostaric for her years of caregiving and to the kind residents and caring workers of Allegheny Place in Penn Hills.  Very deep gratitude is due to niece Cookie for her tireless efforts and time devoted  to keeping Edith comfortable and engaged during her final years. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Animal Friends or The Salvation Army.

Family and friends are welcome in the Alfieri Funeral Home, Inc., 201 Marguerite Ave, Wilmerding, Pa 15148, 412-824-4332, on Sunday from 2pm – 4pm. Edith will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Anthony, at Twin Valley Memorial Park in Delmont on Monday at 11am. Everyone is asked to please meet at the cemetery.
