Christine Heider Obituary

Christine Diane Heider (née Tweedy) passed away in the early hours of February 9th, 2024. Christine was born in Pittsburgh on August 27, 1972, and spent her entire life in the Pittsburgh area, as evidenced by her extreme love and devotion to her beloved Pirates, Penguins, and Steelers.

Christine was a friend to all and stranger to none – she never met a person she couldn’t strike up a conversation with. Christine was a fiercely loyal friend and would gladly go to bat for her loved ones if needed (quite literally). She was a waitress and bartender for many years, and most recently worked the deli counter at Labriola’s (which she absolutely loved). Hospitality was her passion – not only did she serve others at work, but she insisted on waiting on everyone in her life hand and foot. She was also a phenomenal cook and loved cooking for large groups of friends and family whenever she got the chance.

Christine absolutely adored the holidays, and for weeks ahead of Christmas you could be sure to find her in the kitchen, singing and dancing to Elvis Presley’s “Blue Christmas” and baking hundreds of Christmas cookies. Christine was never afraid to show a wide range of emotions, and the late love of her life, Big Phil, was known to say she was always either “laughing or screaming.” Speaking of laughing, the thing most people will think of when remembering Christine is her iconic and unforgettable laugh which could be heard from miles away. Christine loved her children and grandchild “like nobody’s business” and would never miss an opportunity to talk about how proud she was of them and show off pictures. Although Christine struggled with addiction and mental health, she fought her demons bravely and never gave up on herself. Christine loved her family and was devoted to them until her last days.

Christine is survived by her children, Olivia Heider (Michael Lippke) and Phillip Compton; her granddaughter, Lana Lippke; her mother, Karen Dempsey; her father and stepmother, Tom and Sandy Tweedy; her brothers, Tom (Kelly) Tweedy and Drew Dempsey; and many others who loved and cherished her. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Pittsburgh Recovery Walk to help all those who struggle with addiction and help make a road to recovery possible in Christine’s name at www.pittsburghrecoverywalk.org/about/donate/.
