Anna Lucille (Mima) Palumbo

Anna Lucille (Mima) Palumbo passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 23rd. She was 103 years old and predeceased by her immigrant parents, Andrew Mima and Mary Tutko, as well as sisters, Mary and Pauline Mima and brothers Ed and Joseph Mima. She is survived by her daughter, Susan, son-in-law Jay, nieces Cathy, (Henry) Donna, Barbie and Robin (Dave) as well as nephews John (Gina) and Ed (Kimberly) and numerous “Grands”.

Anna took up hairstyling, a skill and talent she would utilize her entire life. As a young lady she loved to dance to big band music at Kennywood Park where she met her future husband, Joe Palumbo. They married 2 years later in August 1945.

Anna and Joe settled in Monroeville PA., where together they built a modest home and, in 1949, welcomed a baby girl, Susan. She (Anna) enjoyed the next 50 years, loving Joe and raising Susan while cutting family hair and hosting family picnics and yearly Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Lasagna and stuffed cabbage, lemon meringue and coconut cream pies were her specialties.

After her husband Joe passed away in 1995, she relocated to Raleigh, NC where she spent the next 30 years living with Susan and her husband Jay, until a fall in 2021 caused a broken shoulder, severely limiting her mobility. She moved to Brighton Gardens where she was
well cared for until her final passing. Anna was a dear, sweet lady, loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

Family and friends are welcome on Thursday, May 1, from 11am to 12:30pm in the Alfieri Funeral Home, Inc., 201 Marguerite Ave, Wilmerding, Pa 15148, 412-824-4332. A Blessing Service will be held at 12:30pm in the funeral home. Anna will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Joe, at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, North Versailles.
