Babe was born in Wilmerding, PA to Lithuanian immigrant parents. His family was poor; yet he always reflected fondly on his upbringing on Watkins Avenue, or as he called it, the Barbary Coast. He enlisted in the Navy in 1945 and served his country during WW2 aboard the gearing-class destroyer the U.S.S. Steinaker. Upon his return from the service, he took a job at the Wilmerding Post Office and worked there for 44 years, retiring as Vice Postmaster. After he married his wife Phyllis, he moved to Pitcairn, where he raised his children. Babe loved his family and spent his life doing everything he could to support them. He was a parishioner of St. Michael’s church in Pitcairn and had many wonderful friends, including the members of his beloved R.O.M.E.O Club (Real Old Men Eating Out). In lieu of flowers, Babe asked to send donations to the Irrevocable Special Needs Trust for Matthew Wallace c/o Mark Wallace, 605 12th Street, Pitcairn, PA 15140.
