William Nicholas Romanishin, 96, of Level Green, died June 18, 2018 at Forbes Regional Hospital. He was born May 12, 1922 to Nicholas and Julia Romanishin. Of the six children of Nicholas and Julia, only Walter, of Erie, Pa. survives. William was married to Katherine (Beltram) for over 60 years. Children of William and Katherine are sons William Jr., Ronald (deceased) and Richard, and daughter Paula. He is also survived by grandchildren Robert and John, sons of William Jr., and his wife Janet.
William served in the US Army for several years during World War II, serving as a radio operator and cook in Europe and North Africa. After the War, he worked several decades as a Precision Machinist for Westinghouse. William loved to grow plants, and for many years tended a very large backyard garden which always produced bountiful and beautiful fruits and vegetables. He was very skillful at making things from wood and metal, and “fixin” things with duct tape and string, traits which live on in his children and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to organizations helping Military Veterans or children with serious illnesses. A gathering to remember and honor William will be held in the fall at the family home in Level Green where he had lived.
Arrangements were handled with The Alfieri Funeral Home, Wilmerding, Pa.
