Nicholas J. "Nick" Cortazzo Sr., 93, of Wilkins Township, died Sunday, May 27, 2018. He was born May 20, 1925. Nick was a sweet man who always laughed. His motto was, "Take out the garbage, lock all the doors, and make sure all the lights are out," and then he'd tap on the table. He was a proud World War II Army veteran, and had a strong work ethic. He retired from the Wilkins Township Road Department. He formerly worked at Westinghouse Air Brake in Wilmerding, and had been a bartender at the Italian American Citizens Club in Wilkins Township. His family was most important to him. He was a son of the late Carmine "Nooch" and Carmella "Carrie" Cortazzo; beloved husband for 68 years of Elizabeth "Liz" (Madonna) Cortazzo; dear father of Nicholas J. "Nick" (late Cissy) Cortazzo Jr., Michael J. Cortazzo (Lisa Powell), and Lisa A. McNutt; cherished grandfather of Eric (Danielle) Suprak, Jason Cortazzo, Joe Hartnett, Christopher Cortazzo, Kimberly Elliot, Pamela Cortazzo and Michael McNutt Jr.; and loving great-grandfather of Austin, Nikki, Andrew, Dylan, Jordan, Cameron, Cicily, Taryn, Tylor, Sadie, Jackson, Audrey and Malena; brother of the late Rose (Donald) Andelmo, and the late Edith and Mary Cortazzo. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and all who loved him. Family and friends will be received from
2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the ALFIERI FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 Marguerite Ave., Wilmerding, PA 15148. Prayers will take place at
9 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, followed at
10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Colman Church. Interment will be in Good Shepherd Cemetery.
