Welcome to the memorial page for

Mildred "Mitzi" Vukic

April 12, 2017

Mildred "Mitzi" Vukic left us to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. She was born to Teodor and Danica Novakovic on Oct. 29, 1932, in Wall; the family had six children: Dan, John "Lefty," Charlie, Mitzi, Betty and Martha. All of the children were members of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church at one time in their lives, and many of them sang with the church choir, which was to become Mitzi's musical passion. During the World War II period, many adult choir members were called to serve their country. The Junior Choir had to fill in during church service throughout the war years. Mitzi was one of the junior choir members pressed into service, and she often spoke of those days with pride and honor. Mitzi's great love of music - particularly liturgical music - reflects her steadfast Orthodox Christian faith. She has used her gifts to serve the Lord faithfully for decades as assistant director of the St. Nicholas Church Choir and the director of the Junior Choir. After high school, Mitzi attended Business Training College in Pittsburgh then worked for Westinghouse. In 1955, she married Uros Vukic, also of Wall and St. Nicholas Church. They were blessed with three children: Bob, Tom and Denise. Bob and his wife, Andrea, reside in Cranberry Township; Tom and his wife, Patty, and two children (Kelsey and Dane) also reside in Cranberry Township; and daughter Denise and her husband, Vladimir, and two children (Nina and Marina) reside in Upper St. Clair. In addition to her three children and four grandchildren, Mitzi is also survived by her two sisters, Betty Novakovich and Martha (John) Rubino; sisters-in-law Martha Vukich and Barb Novakovich; brother-in-law Eli (Kim) Vukich; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at ALFIERI FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 Marguerite Ave., Wilmerding, PA 15148 (412-824-4332), with the Pomen at 4 p.m. Friday. Family and friends will gather at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Nicholas Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church, 2110 Haymaker Road, Monroeville, with service at noon with the Very Rev. George Veselinovic officiating . Everyone please meet at the church. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery
