 GATES J. WILLIAM, Jr. "BILL" "STU" A life well lived has ended. J. William Gates, Jr. of N. Versailles, PA passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, following a valiant struggle against complications from a fall. Bill is survived by Jacqueline, his devoted wife of 37 years; sons, Jay Gates of Newton, MA and Stephen (Shelley) Gates of Omaha, NE; and his daughter, Dr. Michaelene Gates (Dr. Cory Sechrist) of Monroeville, PA; grandchildren, Kaley, Sabrina and Colin; sister, Shirley (Jerry) Noll of Elizabeth; sister-in-law, Michele (Bob) Traynor of North Huntingdon; niece, nephew, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. William and Helen (Semcoski) Gates, Sr.; and his parents-in-law, Michael and Amelia (DeRiggi) Kurey. Bill was born on July 27, 1938, in McKeesport, PA. He was a graduate of McKeesport High School and California State College (1960) with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He earned his Master of Education in 1965 from the University of Pittsburgh. Hired by the East Allegheny School District as a Science, Biology teacher in 1960, he became the Principal of Park Terrace Middle School in 1971, returned to the classroom in 1981 and retired in 1995. Bill was a member of the Versailles United Methodist Church, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Lifetime member of NEA, PSEA, Master Mason of the Duquesne-McKeesport Lodge #731, F&AM, Pittsburgh Commandery No. 1 Knights Templar and Zerubbabel- Duquesne Chapter No. 162, a North Versailles Twp. Committeeman and was an East Allegheny School Director for 16 years. Bill was a compassionate man and will be remembered for his ability to entertain people with his wit and stories but most importantly as an exceptional husband, father, educator and for the great man he was to all who knew him. It is the laughter we will remember, whenever we remember Bill Gates. Family and friends will be received ALFIERI FUNERAL HOME, INC., 201 Marguerite Ave., Wilmerding, PA 15148 (412) 824-4332, on Sunday from 5-9 p.m. and Monday from 2-9 p.m. Additional visitation on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow in Good Shepherd Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Animal Rescue League of Pittsburgh, PA (412) 345-7300, in memory of Bill and his Shetland Sheepdogs.
