DIAZ CARMEN D., Ph.D. Peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2015, age 86, of Shadyside. Born December 5, 1928, in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. Wife of the late Eduardo Diaz; sister of Sonia Allen and Rolando Diaz and the late Herminio Diaz; cherished friend of Andrew and Patricia Kolar and family; also survived by nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received in the ALFIERI FUNERAL HOME, 201 Marguerite Ave., Wilmerding on Monday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. A blessing service will be in the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. followed by burial in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at 11:00 a.m. www.alfierifuneralhome.com. Carmen graduated in 1980 from Ohio State University with a Ph.D. in Psychology and Social Work. She graduated from the University of Puerto Rico in 1966 with a Masters in Social Work and from the George Washington University (Washington, D.C.) in 1954 with a Masters in Clinical Psychology. She also graduated from the University of Puerto Rico in 1952 with a BA in Psychology. She spoke Spanish, French and English and traveled extensively through South America with her husband. She was Associate Professor Emerita of Social Work when she retired from the University of Pittsburgh in 1998. She resided in Shadyside from 1980 until 2013 and then at Harbour Senior Living in Monroeville until the present. Carmen was devoted to her husband, her family, her teaching, and her students. She was noted for her love of life and her capacity to share her joyous spirit with others.
